Get Your Rear in Gear

Now this totally wasn't what I planned on blogging about today but I am actually a little excited about this.

Every year Self Magazine does a "challenge" it's usually a 10 lb challenge to help you kick off some good eating and workout habits.  They usually have a few good recipes here and there but usually the diets are very restrictive and I don't like that.

Well I grabbed a Self Magazine at the checkout yesterday and picked it up because they had something on the cover about running.  I was pleasantly surprised to find this year's Drop 10 Challenge to be realistic and pretty much a renamed copycat of Weight Watchers.  You essentially have a set number of cals but you can choose to make your meal bigger or use them for a special treat.  This is almost identical to the WW points system (but its FREE!).

I recommend grabbing a magazine or heading over to self.com and checking out their new challenge.  I only have 10 lbs left to lose so this is kind of perfect for me.  I wasn't looking for a new eating plan but I am so looking forward to trying some of these meals!  This morning I had a sliced hard-boiled egg on whole wheat toast with some butter and an orange.  I opted to add another slice of toast and butter.  I feel ready to take on this morning's workout!

Aside from the eating plan, I have always loved their workouts and am really looking forward to trying Tabata intervals on the treadmill today.  If you aren't working out, GET UP AND GET GOING.  Especially if you are a mom.  I can't even count how many bad days were made better by working up a good sweat.  I promise it works.  Join the Y (childcare is usually included), mommies NEED mommy time!  If you can't join a gym, then pack up the kids in the stroller with cups and snacks and treck around your neighborhood at a nice clip for half an hour.  The fresh air will do them good!

Oh and a bit of a praise report :)  I signed up last year in March for the challenge and you have to enter your weight and measurements.  I had to update them and was SHOCKED to discover that in one year I've lost 20+ lbs and inches EVERYWHERE!  I'm looking forward to losing the rest!  So hop to it ladies!  Find what works for you and do your best at it!
